In January 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order defining sex strictly as male or female and banning federal funding for "gender ideology." This policy has created uncertainty for colleges and universities, as its immediate implications remain unclear. Institutions are concerned about potential conflicts with existing federal and state laws that protect LGBTQ+ students.

As a result, many colleges are now no longer approving funding for events like drag shows, fearing noncompliance with the new order could jeopardize their federal funding. This situation threatens the livelihood of local drag performers and diminishes safe spaces for LGBTQ+ students and allies.

For years, The House of Mann has been at the forefront of bringing drag to universities and colleges across the Carolinas. Over the past five years, we have employed more than 50 different drag performers, providing paid opportunities for artists while creating inclusive events for students. College shows make up a third of our events, meaning this new policy directly impacts our company, our performers, and the students who rely on these spaces.

Your donation will help us:

  •  Secure Safe & Inclusive Venues: Help us rent spaces where drag can thrive without fear of discrimination.
  •  Fund Production Costs: Cover expenses for costumes, lighting, sound, and stage setups to create high-quality performances.
  •  Support Emerging Drag Artists: Provide opportunities for new and upcoming drag performers to gain experience and visibility.
  • Expand LGBTQ+ Community Programming: Develop drag-related workshops, panels, and events that educate and inspire.
  • Ensure Fair Pay for Performers: Guarantee that drag entertainers are compensated fairly for their talent and time.
  • Combat Anti-LGBTQ+ Policies: Support advocacy efforts to push back against discriminatory policies and protect queer expression.
  •  Bring Drag to Rural Areas: Help us reach towns and communities that lack LGBTQ+ representation and events.

By contributing, you're standing against policies that undermine free speech and human rights, ensuring that the art of drag continues to thrive in our communities.
